The Sfakians say only one is the gorge and they are referring of course to Samarias gorge which is Crete's pride, as no such other exists in Europe. They are right, but Imbros gorge is also well worth seeing.
It may be small but it is most picturesque, full of wildness. In the county of Chania there are 10 larger gorges and another thirty smaller ones. Imbros gorge originates from the last houses of the village and eight kilometers it ends in the village Komitades. Apart from being so beautiful, Imbros gorge has many visitors every year because of the many useful a vantages it has to offer. Some of them are:
- Easy to pass, it has no dangerous points and you don't need a guide with you.
- Because it is so small only a short amount of time is needed, ideal for those who can't walk for many hours or don't have much spare time.
- You can pass the gorge all year round except when it's raining or snowing heavily.
- For those who reach Imbros with their own car, they can leave it there, pass the gorge and return to it with a taxi from Komitades or walk through the gorge all the way back again, as it is not so tiring.
